Virginia Tech Uses A Great Gameplan To Turn Another Corner

Well, that’s how you draw it up, isn’t it? I thought Virginia Tech would win on Saturday, but 48-22? I didn’t see that coming. While it was easy to enjoy wins over Pitt, Wake Forest and Syracuse, I thought the victory on Saturday against Boston College was the most satisfying of the season. Any time you can put up 600 yards of total offense, you’re likely to have a pretty good day at the office.

We talked about turning corners earlier this year after the Syracuse game. The Hokies had turned the corner of blowing out bad teams at home. Now they’ve turned another corner after dominating a middle-of-the-pack team in the ACC standings on the road. They’ve still yet to turn the corner of winning close games. That will have to be done at some point, but I’d like to avoid it for now. Blowing out teams is a lot more fun.

In the past, I have lamented Tech’s lack of blowout wins, because it meant that backups weren’t getting valuable game reps in non-pressure situations. Saturday’s game was such that the Hokies got plenty of second and third stringers quality reps throughout the entirety of the third quarter. When you play three quarterbacks in a game, things are either going very well or very badly. On Saturday, things went very well.

Here’s how many players got offensive or defensive playing time on Saturday at each position:
