Ranking Virginia Tech’s Best (And Worst) Thursday Night Performances

When Virginia Tech first started its national ascent, it needed access to a national audience. ESPN’s Thursday night games were the perfect conduit.

The Hokies made their name and helped popularize the mid-week game, running off a streak of 11 straight wins on Thursday nights from 1998-2005.

“I think it’s been great for our brand,” head coach Brent Pry said this week. “I think people got to know Virginia Tech on Thursday nights, maybe before anyway else.”

It’s been rough lately, though. The Hokies have lost their last three games on Thursdays, including two last year to West Virginia and at NC State, and are just 1-4 at Lane Stadium in the mid-week game since 2012.
