CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If there was one thing No. 8 Virginia Tech women’s basketball lacked in its historic 2022-23 season, which included an ACC championship and a Final Four berth, it was depth.

Though only three players return from last season — albeit three outstanding ones, two of which earned preseason All-American honors on Tuesday in Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore — head coach Kenny Brooks feels like the Hokies are deeper. He told Tech Sideline in August that this team has the possibility to be the best shooting group he’s had, and it’s definitely the biggest and deepest.

Brooks reiterated that in Charlotte on Tuesday at the ACC Tipoff, even saying he thinks the Hokies might have the ability to have an eight-, nine- or 10-player this season. It all comes back to who earns his trust.

“Last year, one through five, one through six, we were experienced, it was all fifth-year kids, Georgia was the youngest one of the group,” Brooks said. “This year, I don’t know if we’re as good or as experienced one through five, but one through 10, we’re much deeper. We can go eight, nine, 10 deep with people who don’t have a major drop-off.
