The First Bank & Trust Virginia Tech Mailbag: An Emptying Student Section, A Dream ACC Scenario And More

The Virginia Tech students haven’t exactly stayed for the full four quarters in many games this season. (Jon Fleming)

I’m pinch-hitting on a Friday mailbag. Let’s get to the questions:

It appears the student section is starting to empty consistently at the half, even in close games, and in games we are winning. Is this a cause for concern from your point of view? How do we keep our students in their seats for the full game? — HokieKoch

Are we sure students are flocking from every game or are they bailing on games when the weather is terrible?

I can’t profess to keeping close tabs on it during the Old Dominion and Pitt games, but I don’t think it was empty. I don’t blame anyone for heading for the nearest ark and not looking back during the Purdue deluge. And the weather got pretty dicey right around halftime against Wake Forest, to the point where I thought it’d be another washout in the second half. Instead, it was a perfect night for football after the break, but who could foresee that?
