On homecoming weekend in Blacksburg, Virginia Tech men’s basketball held a two-hour open practice on Saturday in Cassell Coliseum. Here are four observations:

1. Mike Young said this is his best shooting team yet, and it’s easy to see why.

Last season, the Hokies were limited at times with their perimeter options depending on the lineup.

Justyn Mutts was a 32.5% 3-point shooter. Lynn Kidd and Mylyjael Poteat are not outside threats. And even though MJ Collins and John Camden have the ability — they shot 26.5% and 23.1% respectively — they were forced to play too many minutes last year because of injuries to Rodney Rice and Hunter Cattoor.
