In this week’s Inside the Numbers, we’ll take a break from advanced stats and focus on some more traditional metrics. Specifically, I want to focus on Virginia Tech’s touchdown-to-interception ratio, Bhayshul Tuten’s numbers against ACC opponents and comparing the offensive performance against Pitt to every other game over the last 2-plus seasons.
Virginia Tech’s Touchdown-To-Interception Ratio Much Improved
Virginia Tech has started two different quarterbacks this season, and they each have a three-touchdown, zero-interception game. Grant Wells did it in the season opener against Old Dominion, and Kyron Drones did it this past weekend against the Pitt Panthers.
That’s not something that happens very often at Virginia Tech. Here’s a list of games since 2016 – the start of the Justin Fuente era – in which one quarterback has thrown for three or more touchdown passes while not tossing an interception:
