This summer, Patrick Henry (Va.) 2025 offensive lineman Tyler Barrett made three unofficial trips to Virginia Tech. But the latest, on July 29 for Hokie Fest, was quite different.

Barrett participated in a barbecue challenge alongside assistant coaches Ron Crook and Stu Holt and recruits Aidan Lynch and Carter Stallard. His task was to concoct the group’s ‘secret sauce,’ for burgers. But because of his cooking inexperience, Barrett searched for a sauce online.

“Coach (Brent) Pry said he loved our secret sauce that we made,” Barrett said. “We based it off the Big Mac sauce. I can’t even really remember what all was in it, to be honest. I’m pretty sure it was mayo, ketchup, pickle juice, salt, pepper and a little hot sauce. I might be missing something, but it turned out like a Big Mac, sweet and tangy. It was complete mad scientist, putting it all together.”
