Though two key contributing defensive ends are gone, Virginia Tech returns a lot of players along the defensive line and added a key transfer. The Hokies should have more overall depth up front this year, which should lead to playmaking ability.
Virginia Tech Defensive Ends
The Hokies got solid defensive end play across the board last year, though nobody outside of TyJuan Garbutt racked up impressive stats. Now graduated, Garbutt and his 12 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and 73.0 PFF score must be replaced. Veteran Jaylen Griffin is gone as well after playing over 400 snaps a year ago, so defensive line coach J.C. Price must replace 50% of his two-deep.
The good news is that the two returning members of the two-deep did fairly well last season in terms of grading…...
