The First Bank & Trust Friday Q&A: OL Depth and Brent Pry’s Role

1) With Jesse Hanson’s medical retirement, how will the OL shape up as the year progresses? Who do you think will be the starting five against ODU, and who will line up on OL at the end of the season? – 85vthokie_cincy

CC: I think we know who four of the starters will be. The question is at right guard, which is the spot where Hanson was battling for during the spring. By the end of the spring, he was technically the backup there to Bob Schick, but the battle was still ongoing. I’d expect the starting line to look like this in the opener against Old Dominion:

LT: Xavier Chaplin (6-6, 328, r-Fr.)
LG: Braelin Moore (6-3, 290, r-Fr.)
C: Kaden Moore (6-3, 300, r-Jr.)
RG: Bob Schick (6-6, 305, r-Jr.)
RT: Parker Clements (6-7, 305, r-Jr.)

The good news is that every one of those starters is eligible to return for 2024. The bad news is that just two of the players have starting experience, there will likely be a couple of redshirt freshmen starting side by side and virtually no proven depth. When most of the starters aren’t proven, then yeah, depth is going to be highly questionable.
