During his official visit to Virginia Tech on June 24, Mountain View (Va.) defensive tackle Eric Mensah was among the group of official visitors who accompanied the Hokies staff to Claytor Lake where they went tubing.

Defensive end Gerard Johnson said it was on that trip that he decided to commit to Virginia Tech. Mensah didn’t tube, but like Johnson, it was during that experience that he came to the realization that he too wanted to be a Hokie. Mensah said he enjoyed his time on the water and playing cornhole afterward.

“I actually didn’t tube, I was just watching everybody,” Mensah said. “But it was cool doing all that boat stuff. I’d never been on a boat before. They let me drive. I didn’t go tubing, so they told me I could drive the boat. I felt like the coolest man on the block.”
