Emotions got a bit heated at Virginia Tech football’s practice on Tuesday, to the point that head coach Brent Pry very adamantly made his wrap-up speech to the team after the workout about the importance of keeping your cool — doing so at a volume that anyone within several hundred yards could hear.
“A little sloppy but competitive,” Pry said afterward. “We got some good things out of it. I think it was a good challenge.
“We had a heck of a day Friday. A lot of good work, a lot of good snaps. And to come back again today, full pads, get live work, that was the challenge. Can we sustain? Can we do it longer and harder? And I thought at times today it was questionable. They let the emotion get the best of them a little bit.”
What exactly transpired before the media returned to the field for interviews remains unknown, though it sounds like the defense got the better of the offense in the latter stages, an edge that boiled over at times.
