Virginia Tech receiver Jaylin Lane fired off the line, locked up with Mansoor Delane in short order and in a snap decision decided to get physical, using both arms to shove the cornerback straight back and onto his butt before releasing to the inside for an easy touchdown.

The offense mobbed him on the field in celebration. The defense begged for offensive pass interference. Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry soaked it all in, happy with how that one-on-one in front of the entire team set a tone for the day.

“I wouldn’t have changed that even if he’d have thrown the flag,” Pry said.

That kicked off the Hokies’ fifth practice, a two-plus hour workout in Lane Stadium that was open to fans, the first time Tech has been able to do extended situational and scrimmage work this spring.
