How Will Virginia Tech Remember Hunter Cattoor And Justyn Mutts?

How will Virginia Tech remember Justyn Mutts and Hunter Cattoor? (Jon Fleming)

As a high school senior, Hunter Cattoor committed to Wofford. Then Mike Young became the head coach at Virginia Tech.

Young convinced Cattoor to switch his allegiance to the Hokies. He was the first recruit in a new era of Virginia Tech basketball. Four years later, he ranks fifth in 3-pointers in school history with 248 and eclipsed 1,000 career points (1,064).

Justyn Mutts spent his first three years of college at High Point and Delaware. But despite the pandemic, he found his way to Blacksburg in 2020. With the Hokies, he scored over 400 baskets and was seven points shy of 1,000. In his five seasons, he produced 1,562 points, 1,031 rebounds and 433 assists.

On Wednesday night in Greensboro, the Hokies were completely outmatched vs. NC State in a 97-77 loss, and there’s a possibility it was the last game in the collegiate careers of Cattoor and Mutts. That depends on whether the Hokies get an NIT bid, and in the case of Cattoor, whether or not he chooses to use his COVID year and return next season.
