Inside The Numbers: Brad Glenn, The Georgia State Offense, And Virginia Tech’s Direction

In his Postseason Thought-Sorting, Part 3 article, Brandon Patterson noted that the latest two quarterback commits for Virginia Tech – Kyron Drones and Pop Watson – looked like players Brad Glenn would have recruited when he was the offensive coordinator at Georgia State.

I’ve had similar thoughts. At one point this past season, we saw Glenn move to the booth with Tyler Bowen. After that, we started to see the quarterback involved in the running game a little bit more and there was more misdirection like we saw from his offenses at GSU. In fact, there was even speculation (which Tech denied) that Glenn had taken over playcalling duties around the NC State game.

Since Drones and Watson are Glenn-type quarterbacks and Glenn became more involved with the offense as the season went along, I thought we would go back to his era as the Georgia State offensive coordinator/QB coach to try and figure out exactly what a Glenn offense looks like statistically and how that could apply to Virginia Tech in the future.

Glenn was at Georgia State from 2019 through 2021. We’ll be focusing on the numbers from those seasons, and we’ll take a deeper dive into his three different starting quarterbacks.
