The leadership of Brent Pry has been incredible from the start. Since his introductory press conference, he has sparked excitement among Hokie fans and alums, laying out his vision for rebuilding the Virginia Tech football program.  As the program has slipped from prominence, his enthusiasm and message were a much-needed shot in the arm.

During the offseason, he has already distinguished himself from his predecessor. Among other things, he’s built a strong relationship with the fanbase. He has been dedicated to connecting with alums, not to mention the high school football coaches throughout Virginia. His ability to communicate with people is as natural as breathing.

That’s refreshing to see again in the Virginia Tech head coach.

For the past several months, I’ve become increasingly interested in Pry’s process and strategy for cultivating a winning culture. The bottom line is that we must rebuild from the ground up to get to where we want to be. The program needs to be overhauled entirely, but its brand needs to be fully understood. Even Pry admitted that Virginia Tech is a special place and isn’t for everyone. He ensured every hire on his staff was a good match for the program’s culture and the town of Blacksburg.
