The interest certainly came in this spring for St. Frances (Md.) 2024 defensive tackle Darrion Smith. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound lineman has nine scholarship offers, most recently from Virginia Tech, USC and NC State.

At this point, however, Smith said he’s more or less just surveyed his current options. Among his only visits thus far has been to nearby Maryland. This summer, however, Smith said he wants to see Virginia Tech, USC and Penn State among others, as he looks at what each school interested can offer.

“I’m looking for how much love they show me, if it feels like home,” he said. “Are they going to do what I need them to do, as much as they need me to do stuff? I look at the coaching staff, too.”
