Virginia Tech’s 2022 football schedule was released on Monday night. As usual, the Hokies close with UVA, but the rest of their schedule is littered with many interesting games and dates.

The Return Of Thursday Night Football

Recently we’ve seen Friday night games becoming more of the norm for the Hokies, and though they possibly will play ODU on a Friday this year, the schedule is headlined by a pair of Thursday night contests against ACC foes.

Of course the big one is a home Thursday night game against border rival West Virginia (Sep. 22). There was worry last season that Virginia Tech’s game in Morgantown would be a night game and things would get rowdy, but that turned out to be a noon game, and with emotions cooled over the years, there weren’t any issues that I know of.

Well, the networks aren’t doing the Mountaineers any favors. Rather than making their return trip to Blacksburg a noon game, it’s on a Thursday night in what promises to be the first big home game of the Brent Pry era. Sure, the BC game on September 10 is the ACC opener, which means it’s important by default, but let’s face it…no matter what conference either team is in, West Virginia is going to bring out a lot more emotions among the fanbase than Boston College.
