Penn State’s defense came out flat in 2016, first giving up 42 in an upset loss to Pitt, and then getting roundly thumped by Michigan 49-10. With “Be hungry, go harder, stay humble” as a motto, that defense turned things around. Often starting back-ups and playing walk-ons, Penn State won the B10 that year, knocking off #2 Ohio State and #6 Wisconsin along the way. Under Pry, they started running “hunger drills” that the entire defense participated in that practiced fundamentals from block destruction to stripping the ball.
