
And thus, another home football season comes to an end, with a big win over a bad Duke team that came along at just the right time.
Sure, it was just Duke, but as I outlined in last week’s game preview, Duke in Blacksburg hasn’t exactly been a gimme in the last decade. Here’s the graphic we ran in that preview:
The first five times these teams played in Blacksburg in ACC play (2004-2012, even numbered years), Virginia Tech went 5-0 and won by an aggregate score of 176-47 (35-9 average score). Pounding Duke in Blacksburg – not just beating them but flattening them – was a given.
