Alex Taylor
Wide Receiver, Class of 2024
Grimsley High School, Greensboro, NC
6-2, 175

The first college gameday Grimsley (NC) 2024 wide receiver Alex Taylor made came Sept. 3 at Virginia Tech. It was an experience he relished.

“I first got there and loved the atmosphere,” he said. “It was a sold-out crowd and pretty much loud the whole time. Virginia Tech pretty much dominated the whole game. It was crazy, really mind-blowing. I didn’t know what to expect, but it kind of shocked me.”

Still, it was simply the beginning. Taylor currently claims three scholarship offers: Virginia, Coastal Carolina and the Hokies. He visited the Cavaliers Sept. 11 and will be at South Carolina this weekend. Each stop gives him the chance to get a better glimpse of what college gamedays and the people are like.

“I’m not really looking for anything now, just trying to get as much as I can when I’m young, explore my options,” Taylor said. “I’m just waiting until they come to me. I’ve been getting a lot of game visits, so I want to see the atmosphere.”

In addition to the game itself, Taylor said there were quite a few things he liked about Virginia Tech, and he’s hopeful of a return visit soon.

“I like the school a lot and I want to go back,” Taylor said. “They’ve been doing good this season, too. I like the school a lot right now. I just like the fans, the crowd, atmosphere, everything about it. About 97% of players graduate, so it’s a great place to be around.”

Assistant coaches Jafar Williams and Jack Tyler have been the Hokies’ primary contacts for Taylor so far, but it was Williams who especially expressed Virginia Tech’s desire.

“I called the receivers coach last week and talked and that’s when they offered,” Taylor said. “He watched my film and said he liked me and my route running. Everybody’s been cool, saying how they liked my film. They like me on their radar, and they’re going to keep watching in the future. I’d like to get back up for more games.”

Taylor’s visit to Virginia also went well. He said he especially liked
