The Virginia Tech Friday Q&A: Tight Ends, NIL Laws, and the Expanded Playoffs

1) Does VT have the best tight end group in the conference? Will that help us win? – proudhokie2001

Chris Coleman: These days I let the transfer portal play itself out before taking a look at exactly what each ACC school has in terms of positional strengths and weaknesses.  That being said, yes, I would expect Virginia Tech to have one of the best tight end groups in the ACC this season, as has generally been the case in recent years (especially in 2019 when Tech had both Dalton Keene and James Mitchell playing major roles).

When I look at Tech’s top three tight ends (Mitchell, Nick Gallo, and Drake Deluliis), I expect different things from each player.

Mitchell: I expect Mitchell to be the most consistent player, and I expect him to be good in both the passing game and the running game.  I also expect him to be a big play threat in the passing game.  Here’s a line from a recent PFF article on the nation’s best returning tight ends…
