Virginia Tech Fisher Law Firm Friday Q&A

Virginia Tech
Some recruits, such as 2022 DE Kyree Moyston, need to hit the weight room. But can they? (@kyreechance)

1) We saw a number of Hokie football players not have access to gyms and/or the necessary support system during the pandemic and they came back out of shape, etc, even with the coaching staff talking to them/pushing them regularly on Zoom. We now have numerous 2021 recruits not playing high school football. Can we reasonably expect next year’s recruits to be in shape or ready to contribute? Perhaps this year not counting towards eligibility has another hidden bonus, as next year’s recruits may not be ready even more than normal. – vtce2000

Chris Coleman: With 2020 not counting towards eligibility, Virginia Tech could end up with somewhere around 40 scholarship true freshmen on next year’s roster.  That’s somewhat of a dream scenario for me, because it means the Hokies have a chance set their record for most redshirts in a season, but it’s a bit of a logistical nightmare for coaches.  All these guys want to play early these days, and it’s simply not going to happen for a large chunk of them next season.
