With a bit more time on his hands during the current Covid-19 pandemic and NCAA recruiting dead period, Sierra Canyon (Calif.) cornerback DJ Harvey has had more time to think about his recruitment. He recently released a top five list of schools, but he’s also dug more into what each could offer.

Virginia Tech, California, Southern California, Oregon and Texas comprise Harvey’s top group. He’s visited all but the Longhorns in that group, and when he’s allowed to, plans to visit all five. But as far as a decision, Harvey is less sure when that will happen.

Harvey,’s No. 30 athlete for 2021, visited Blacksburg on March 1 with his seven-on-seven team, Premium Sports. Unprompted, Harvey said he still vividly remembers the “craziness” from fans and those he saw on that stop.

“We went there at midnight and I’m like, ‘why y’all here at midnight?’” Harvey said. “Everyone said, ‘there was a buzz about you coming.’ It’s a small town, so it’s not too big, not too small and they’re cool. The atmosphere was cool, too.”

While assistant coach Beau Davidson initiated the contact with Harvey, it’s been a staff effort since. That’s something Harvey said he’s particularly noticed.

“All the coaches are texting me, talking to me, and it’s
