Before the current pandemic and ensuing NCAA recruiting dead period hit, Highland Park (TX) 2021 three-star offensive tackle Jack Leyrer did get in one recruiting visit. That trip, to Texas Tech March 7-8, was the only stop Leyrer made this year. It gave him a good idea of what one of his options could do for him, but not a thorough one.

That coordinator, Brad Cornelsen, is still getting in with Leyrer, despite that early reach out, in most part because Virginia Tech only recently re-initiated contact.

“He was the first recruiter I talked to, which is cool,” Leyrer said. “That’s cool for me. He took the time to find me and connect me with that school. They kind of just now circled back around, so I haven’t had contact until recently.”

Leyrer said that when the dead period is lifted, he hopes to get visits in to
