Five Virginia Tech players announced on Wednesday night that they had entered the transfer portal, so I figure that it’s time to update the scholarship count at each position.
None of the transfers were a surprise if you’ve been following what we’ve been writing/saying over the past few months. Here they are, as reported earlier today:
WR Hezekiah Grimsley
WR Phil Patterson
WR Jacoby Pinckney
Whip Khalil Ladler
RB Caleb Steward
Each of those guys has a different reason for transferring. Let me recap what we’ve heard about each player…
Steward: Steward is in a logjam at running back. Zohn Burden was high on him coming out of high school, but I’m not sure anybody else on the staff felt quite the same way.
Grimsley: Grimley has a family situation back home involving his mother, so it wouldn’t be surprise to see him land at William & Mary (he’s from Williamsburg). However, I’ve been told that it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he could decide to return to Virginia Tech.
Pinckney: Lots of people, myself...
