Lugoff Elgin (SC) three-star offensive lineman Parker Clements loves the outdoors. He especially loves fishing.

There were plenty of reasons why Clements,’s No. 18 player in South Carolina for 2020, committed to Virginia Tech on November 21. But he’d be leaving out a few details if he didn’t mention location as part of his decision.

“I love the mountains,” Clements said. “Sometimes, I’d rather go there than the beach. Being surrounded by that, I like that about Virginia Tech. There’s lot of farms out there and the New River, that’s good. Lots of small mouth (bass) in there. That’s a factor, but that wasn’t making my decision. It’s a plus, though, I’ll tell you that.”

Clements had 16 offers to his credit, but said it came down to the Hokies and Appalachian State for his commitment. Virginia Tech, though, gave him plenty of pluses on and off the field.

“I really like both of those schools,” Clements said. “They were with me the whole time, recruiting me. They never shied away like some schools do. They stayed with me the whole time, and I enjoyed both coaching staffs. It was a pretty tough decision.
