Five Virginia Tech true freshmen made their collegiate debut against Boston College, and two more played for the first time this past week against Old Dominion.  One of those two made his first collegiate start.

Only two games into the season, all of these players are still eligible to redshirt.  However, I’d guess that most who have played already have been identified as players who are expected to help all season, with one possible exception.

Virginia Tech Freshmen Who Have Played

Seven true freshmen played a major role in Virginia Tech’s 31-17 victory over Old Dominion.  The snap counts listed below are for the entire season, not just the ODU game.

WR Tayvion Robinson: 7 special teams snaps, 74 offensive snaps, 81 total snaps.  Through two games, Robinson leads the team in receptions (10) and is second in receiving yards (134).  He has also been returning kicks, though he was taken off the kickoff return team after his near-gaffe to start Saturday’s game.  He’s going to continue to play a huge role for Virginia Tech this season.
