Virginia Tech Football Fall Peeks

The HokeSports.com team is back to mic’ing coaches and showing us some inside footage of practice. Unlike the clips I reviewed this past spring, the mic’ed up coaches aren’t being given their own videos this pre-season; instead, they’re being packaged in with wider views of the team as part of “All Access” videos. You’re not going to glean any strategic or depth-chart insights from these clips, but they do offer some good opportunities to talk “Football 101” and see what these players and coaches are like as people. Here are some things that caught my eye:

All Access, Fall Camp 2019 pt. 1

0:20—That’s Ishmiel Seisay, a redshirt senior who came over from Iowa Western CC as a walk-on with former Hokie QB AJ Bush. Seisay doesn’t get many snaps, but I don’t think he would’ve gotten this screen time if he wasn’t providing some leadership. At the very least, he’s comfortable enough to pull an anti-Brent and cuss on camera.

0:31: —Speaking of stretching ‘n “stuff,” here’s Justin Hamilton cracking his knees in preparation for chasing the youngsters around. It’s not something fans think about, but coaches can get a workout during practice, too, especially WR and DB coaches.

0:40—I like seeing that kind of rapport from Wiles and Hamilton with Fuente. Sometimes offensive and defensive coaching units turn into self-contained staffs that can be antagonistic towards their counterparts on the other side of the ball. I’ve never seen a hint that anything like that could be going on with this staff.
