It happens. Not everyone grows at the same pace, or to the same point.

Harrisburg (Pa.) 2021 offensive lineman Nate Bruce is currently at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds. That alone is enough to garner attention. But it’s the skill that goes with the frame that has Virginia Tech, UMASS, Bowling Green and Toledo making scholarship offers.

Bruce especially has his eye on a pair of offers, and he’ll be visiting one of those schools soon.

“The main thing is hospitality, making me feel wanted when I’m there,” Bruce said. “My mom sees everything about the academic part, so that’s big too. She’s big on that. My mom goes with me on all my visits, her and my dad.”

The Hokies offered Bruce on June 21. It came on the heels of his participation in one of their satellite camps at Bowie State University (Md.). Bruce last visited Virginia Tech itself in February for a junior day.

“I love Virginia Tech,” he said. “I’ve been up there, and they showed me a great time. I like the staff, especially Coach (Adam) Lechtenberg, and Coach (Vance) Vice, he likes me. When I went to camp, he said he was interested in me and gave me the offer.”

Bruce said he liked the Hokies’ camp because it gave him a chance to work with Vice, and it gave him a chance to see what he could expect at Virginia Tech.

“We were working on O-line drills and steps,” Bruce said.
