Offensive Guard, Class of 2020
Carver High School, Montgomery, AL
6-5, 315

The early offers are a start, but for the most part, Carver (Ala.) 2020 offensive lineman James Robinson hasn’t delved into his recruitment just yet.

Virginia Tech offered Robinson Dec. 9, joining Florida Atlantic, Bowling Green, Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Others have stayed in touch, though overall, Robinson is still up in the air about what’s next.

“My recruitment is wide open,” he said. “I ain’t trying to finish anything except football. Only time I’ll start closing and liking schools is my senior year, when I’m definite about what I want to do. Right now, it’s wide open.”

The Hokies are still relatively new for Robinson, as he’s still learning more about them.

“I haven’t started looking at them yet, but I like that they offered,” he said. “They have some good offensive linemen. They’re far, but it’s not that far. And I know about the O-line coach (Vance Vice) and Coach (Holmon) Wiggins.”

Wiggins has been Robinson’s primary contact. They haven’t had a lot of interaction, but Robinson said he appreciated a few qualities he noticed in Wiggins.

“Coach Wiggins texted me on Dec. 9 and told me he spoke with the O-line coach, and he loves my film,” Robinson said. “He said, ‘I want you to know you have an offer.’ He came and told me what was up. He was just straight up, told me what I need to do to be successful, as far as Virginia Tech. I like that.”

Robinson has only seen a pair of schools in-person to this point. Over the past two years, he’s been to six games at nearby Alabama, and this fall he went to a game at Georgia Tech.
