1) Are Justin Fuente and company doing enough to keep up in recruiting? How is VT doing in gaining talent in comparison to the ACC and perennial Top 25? – DallasHokie98

Chris Coleman: It’s so hard to say until you get 4-5 recruiting class in the program, and you see how guys develop. Nobody is going to look at the recruiting rankings and say that Virginia Tech is gaining ground on Clemson, and I wouldn’t expect that. But of Virginia Tech’s past six recruiting classes, the two best (per the 247 composite rankings) were under Fuente’s watch. We’ll cover that and more interesting stats in the next question.

I think at certain positions, the Hokies are very much gaining ground. A year ago today, Virginia Tech’s top three wide receiver prospects on their board were Jacoby Pinckney and Elijah Bowick on the outside, and Tayvion Robinson in the slot. Those are the three guys they wanted more than anyone, and they got all three. The year before that, two of their top three wide receiver targets were Tre Turner and Darryle Simmons. So it’s accurate to say that the coaching staff has landed five of their top six targets at wide receiver over the last three years.
