True Freshman Linebackers at Virginia Tech: A History

Dax Hollifield enrolled at Virginia Tech this summer as one of the most highly touted linebackers to ever sign with the Hokies.  He picked Tech over Clemson, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Penn State and others. 

What really makes Hollifield stand out over almost all other linebacker recruits in my memory are two things…

1) The amount of time and effort Bud Foster put into Hollifield’s recruitment.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen Foster put so much effort into one recruit.

2) The way Foster talked about Hollifield when Foster met with the media last week.  I’ve never heard him praise a true freshman linebacker as much as he praised Hollifield.
