On June 10, Dorman (SC) three-star wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney released a top four that consisted of Virginia Tech, Michigan, Georgia and Alabama. It only took him one day, however, to make a decision.

Pinckney, Rivals.com’s No. 55 wide receiver and No. 4 player in South Carolina for 2019, didn’t announce his commitment to the Hokies until June 26. And while he knew where he was headed (others made the deduction), those closest to him didn’t even know, including his parents. Now, though, he’s readying himself to make an impact when he arrives in Blacksburg.

“They were straight with it,” Pinckney said of his parents. “It isn’t like they don’t know anyone up there. They’re like family. My mom said she thought I was going to Georgia. I don’t let too many people know what I’ve got going on in my head. I don’t hint too much. I kept it to myself. They were fine with it, comfortable. They said, if that’s where I feel I need to be, then I need to do it.”
