Blacksburg native Cole Beck received a Virginia Tech offer in early August, and he committed to the Hokies on Oct. 6. The recruitment of Beck was a long, drawn out process that saw many twists and turns. At one point the Hokies only planned to take one running back in the 2018 class, which prevented Beck from getting an offer. There were also questions about his hands, blocking, etc. — questions that still persist.
Nevertheless, Beck did receive an offer, and as expected he stuck with his hometown school. He also plans to run track at Virginia Tech, as he is one of the top sprinters in the state of Virginia. Beck is known for his outstanding speed, and he routinely breaks away for big runs at the high school level. He also ran extremely well at Virginia Tech’s camp last summer, though he did not perform well enough in other drills to earn an offer right away.
Beck rushed for over 1,900 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior. For his career, he totaled 4,723 rushing yards, 6,0217 total yards and 81 total touchdowns. His senior season wasn’t quite as productive as his junior season, simply because Blacksburg blew out so many teams that Beck wasn’t used as much in the second half of many games.
