Class of 2019 Linebacker Drake Thomas Staying in Touch With Virginia Tech

Class of 2019 linebacker Drake Thomas might have a teammate heading to one of his potential college choices, but it’s far too early to count out his other suitors.

Thomas, a rising senior at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, N.C., holds 16 scholarship offers, most recently from Michigan State and Georgia Tech. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound prospect made a few visits during the season that helped him feel things out, and he has visits coming that could make things even clearer. Still, a decision is not imminent.

“I mean, right now, I’m kind of not looking at specific details yet,” Thomas said. “That’s something I’ll get into this spring, especially with the academics. I already know most of the coaches and the facilities. I’ll look at specifics in the spring.

“There’s a few schools, but no school that’s recruiting me the most. For the main part, there’s not really anyone standing out.”

This fall, Thomas took in games at Virginia Tech, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and NC State. Collectively, there were plenty of characteristics to note.

“I remember the atmospheres of some of the schools,” Thomas said. “Some just stood out, how they went about things, schools that really seemed like football schools.”
