In just over a year, 2019 athlete Lannden Zanders has hit a growth spurt. As a sophomore, he wrestled for Kings Mountain High School at 113 pounds. This year, after transferring to Crest High School in Shelby, N.C., Zanders developed into a legitimate college football prospect.
Zanders played both sides of the ball this season at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds. On offense, he hauled in a team-high 24 catches for 363 yards and five touchdowns, and added 95 yards rushing. On defense, is where Zanders especially shined, as he finished with 54 tackles and seven tackles for loss to go with six interceptions and a blocked kick.
After the first six games of the season, Zanders had offers from Appalachian State, East Carolina and Georgia Southern. With his junior season concluded, Zanders now has his sights set on his recruiting options.
Zanders, rated as a 3-star prospect by Rivals, took visits to North Carolina, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Alabama, Virginia Tech, East Carolina and Appalachian State this fall. Each gave him something different, but they each had one aspect in common.
