A little bit of exasperation expressed right when UNC’s “but we played in a peculiar and highly localized/targeted hurricane last year” excuse is mentioned.

Yup, Bud Foster is pleased as punch with this game, and with good reason: it was a shellacking. In honor of this great defensive day, I went through the play-by-play and pulled all of Tech’s sacks and TFLs (plus a rumblin’ fumble return.) You’ll find these are largely characterized by sizeable defenders arriving en masse in the backfield.

An attempted passing play that looks prophetic, in retrospect. UNC comes out in the gun with three running backs in the backfield. The o-line blocks to the defensive left, leaving Trevon Hill coming in off the right side to be picked up by a tailback. Hill expects an ankle-high block, but instead is cut higher and popped into a flat spin. He lands at the feet of UNC QB Chazz Surratt, who has a case of butter
