Until last weekend, Thomas Dale (Va.) 2020 running back Chris Tyree wasn’t focused on his football recruitment. Still, what was on his mind should pay dividends on the football field.

Tyree is a standout on the track. This spring, he won the Virginia outdoor regional meet and placed fifth at the state meet in the 100m dash. Tyree also won the 100m and the 4×100 relay at the freshman national meet at North Carolina A&T.

Still, Tyree has already made plenty of noise for football. He’s up to 12 scholarship offers, most recently from Penn State, Georgia and West Virginia. Virginia Tech offered last summer, and his track success could force the hand of other schools soon.

“It definitely put me in really good shape,” Tyree said. “Me and my track coach talk all the time, when I break open in the open field, it’ll just be faster.
