Virginia Tech’s 2016-17 basketball season begins tomorrow night when a 9pm tipoff against the Maine Black Bears. This is easily the most hyped basketball season the Hokies have had in a long time, and they are hoping to get off to a strong start.
There are several things I want to discuss today. We’ll spend a short time talking about a possible starting lineup, but mainly I want to talk about the ACC media’s preseason prediction for the Hokies (which I think is a blessing in disguise) and setting expectations for the season.
Projected Starting Lineup
Because of so many starting caliber players being on the roster, it’s hard to say what Buzz Williams’ starting five will be against Maine. We’re certain that Kerry Blackshear won’t play in the opener, so that rules him out. Here’s my initial guess…
1: Justin Robinson (So.)
2: Ahmed Hill (r-So.)
3: Justin Bibbs (Jr.)
4: Chris Clarke (So.)
5: Khadim Sy (Fr.)
I think Seth Allen will continue to come off the bench in most games. Because Zach LeDay missed so much time in the preseason due to a concussion, I think he’ll come off the bench as well. He might not play a lot in the first few games. As long as he’s healthy for the Thanksgiving trip to Anaheim for the DirecTV Wooden Legacy, it shouldn’t matter.
The reality is that Tech’s starting lineup will most likely change numerous times this year based on a number of things…
3: Effectiveness in practice
