I’m more concerned about linebacker play than I am any other position on defense, and perhaps even more than any other position on the entire team.  Tech’s linebacker play was decidedly below average in 2015, and they lost their most consistent performer – Deon Clarke (who was actually an inconsistent player, and the fact that he was Tech’s most consistent linebacker shows had poor the group was overall).

Virginia Tech needs better production at all linebacker spots.  Unfortunately, their most talented players are still very young, and it’s unknown whether or not they can provide big upgrades at this stage of their careers.

Tech has two scholarship players at mike right now…

Andrew Motuapuaka (6-0, 235, r-Jr.)
Carson Lydon (6-2, 237, So.)

Virginia Tech needs much better production from the mike linebacker spot this season.  Whether that improved production comes from returning starter Andrew Motuapuaka getting better or from Carson Lydon earning the job does not matter.  The Hokies have to get better
