Frank Beamer talked about personnel changes during yesterday’s press conference. Today we’ll translate and analyze what he said.
Greg Stroman to Wide Receiver
This one doesn’t need any translating.
“He’s going to be a wide receiver full time,” Beamer said. “We think he’s a great playmaker.”
In other words, Stroman is working at wide receiver all week, and he will continue to work at wide receiver all season. The coaching staff knows that they can’t count on Demitri Knowles or Kevin Asante. Those guys are seniors, and if they were going to crack the rotation, they would have done it by now. Any rep they get in practice is basically a wasted rep at this point. It’s much better to give those reps to someone who can contribute this year, or even to someone who has a chance to contribute in the future.
We all know that Stroman is an excellent athlete who can make plays in the open field with the ball in his hands. He’s had his moments as a punt returner, and he helped the team offensively in the Military Bowl against Cincinnati. However, I want to caution everyone to not expect too much out of him this season.
Stroman was a quarterback in high school, and we know what generally happens to quarterbacks/RBs-turned-wideout in Virginia...
