The season is just six days away. Most redshirt decisions have been made. Today we’ll update you on the status of Tech’s true freshmen.

QB Dwayne Lawson, 6-6, 222: Lawson is listed in a tie with Chris Durkin for the #3 spot on the depth chart. He’s helping simulate JT Barrett for the scout team this week. I don’t think the coaching staff will throw him on the field against Ohio State for his first college game. My best guess is that he’ll make his VT debut against Furman, but note the key word there: guess.

RB Deshawn McClease, 5-9, 177: McClease was impressive in Tech’s first scrimmage, but the Hokies have depth at tailback and he needs to add muscle mass. He’ll redshirt.

RB Coleman Fox, 5-11, 192: Fox will also redshirt this year. I’m a little bit surprised that he’s not being worked at slot receiver.

FB Steven Peoples, 5-9, 220: Peoples has been impressive since the spring, and right now he is the top backup to Sam Rogers. He will play as a true freshman. I would expect him to be on scholarship by spring semester, if he isn’t already.
