Chris Durkin

Height: 6-3
Weight: 230

Chris Durkin switched his commitment from Rose Bowl Champion Michigan State to Virginia Tech, and he also had offers from schools such as Cal and Northwestern.  He’s an intriguing prospect who already looks the part.  He has a college-ready body already, and you can bet that he will be one of Mike Gentry’s favorite pupils.

Durkin has a lot of things working in his favor…

Size: As noted above, he is physically ready to play ACC football right now.

Arm Strength: Durkin has the arm strength to make all the throws, including the deep out to the opposite hash.  With refined mechanics, his arms strength can still improve as well.

Strength: Durkin is going to be physically stronger than every other quarterback in the program, and most quarterbacks throughout college football.

Toughness: Durkin seeks out linebackers to run over them, rather than sliding or running out of bounds.

Running ability: Durkin is an ideal read option quarterback.  He is also an ideal short yardage and goalline quarterback, just like Logan Thomas.

Quick feet: You can see that Durkin has quick feet when he moves.  His change of direction ability is very good for a guy his size.

Vision: Durkin is a good natural runner who appears to make the right cuts at the right time.

Quick release: When he is set and using the proper technique, Durkin gets rid of the ball quickly, and the ball gets to the receiver fast.

Here’s a look at his highlight film, and you’ll be able to see all the attributes listed above…

That’s a lot of positive tools to work with, and I know Scot Loeffler can’t wait to get on the practice field with Durkin.  He sees
