Smith’s move bolsters future OL depth

Virginia Tech r-freshman defensive tackle Alston Smith was moved to offensive guard this week.  The move will create more future depth up front for offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.

If you’ve been a TSL Pass subscriber for awhile, you know that we’ve been very concerned about offensive line depth in future seasons.  The Hokies went a couple of years without recruiting enough players for the offensive line, and it looked as if depth issues could really hamper the line in 2015.

Because of that – and because we thought he was a better fit on offense – we really pushed for Wyatt Teller to be moved to offensive tackle.  He was, and it appears the move is going to work out.  Smith’s move further bolsters the numbers, and now I’m not nearly worried as I was a couple of months back.

With the move of Smith, here’s how offensive line depth will look in 2015.  Remember, those class years are their projected years in 2015.
