Virginia Tech is off to a hot start with their defensive back recruiting.  Now they’re looking to finish strong by hauling in a mammoth defensive line class.

The Hokies have commitments from four or five defensive backs, depending on where you slot Javon Harrison .  However, they have work to do to complete their front seven.  They are in strong shape on the defensive line, even if they do lose out on a couple of their top targets.

Tech started off their defensive line recruiting very well at the 2012 Spring Game.  Vinny Mihota pulled the trigger that day, despite not being allowed to sign with the Hokies for another 22 months.  Mihota is a very good defensive end prospect who has since added an offer from Alabama.  I know everyone is focused on several other defensive line prospects, but Mihota is legit.

Obviously Da’Shawn Hand , the nation’s #1 overall prospect, is Virginia Tech’s top priority at defensive end.  Hand is going to take plenty of visits, and he currently lists a top five of, in no particular order, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina.  Auburn is also trying to sneak into this list, and Hand just visited that campus.

The general consensus is that this race will come down to Virginia Tech and Michigan.  At this stage of the game, most projections have him picking Tech in the end, though obviously there is a long way to go.  He has visited Tech more than any other school, and he’ll be back again this summer.  I feel good about this one right now.
