Before we get into the Q&A, let’s take a moment to talk about what Tech’s secondary could look like in tomorrow’s game with Pitt.
Bonner Banged Up
In case you missed it, starting free safety Detrick Bonner didn’t practice in the early part of the week, and he might not start Saturday’s game at Pitt. If he doesn’t start, Virginia Tech will slide Kyshoen Jarrett over to free safety, and start r-freshman Michael Cole at rover. Tech’s depth chart in the secondary would look like this:
Yep, you read that correctly. Every single second string player is a true freshman. One of them, Greg Jones, is a walk-on. That’s how thin the Hokies are in the secondary.
If I were writing a game preview from the Pitt perspective, here’s how I would describe Virginia Tech’s secondary:
Antone Exum : A terrific athlete, but he’s in his first season at cornerback, and he didn’t look good against Austin Peay.
Michael Cole : A r-freshman who has had lots of nagging injuries, Cole will be making his first career start if Bonner is out.
