Six Recruits Remain on Tech’s Board

Virginia Tech has 15 commitments for the 2013 recruiting class.  They are targeting a very limited number of players for the rest of the class.  From this point on, most of their recruiting efforts will be focused on the 2014 class.

By my count, there are five players left on the board that the Hokies have a legitimate shot at landing.  Possibly six, with the Dorian Johnson situation.  Let’s take a quick look at each guy.

I get the same question every week.  What are Virginia Tech’s chances with Derrick Green ?  I dunno.  You’re talking about a guy who has had two previous “favorites” – Ohio State and Clemson.  Well, Ohio State and Clemson didn’t make Green’s final six.  Right now the current hot name is Michigan.  Do I think Green favors Michigan right now?  Yes.  Am I convinced that he’ll keep favoring them, considering his past history with Ohio State and Clemson?  No.

Recruiting Green to Virginia Tech is a pretty easy pitch.  David Wilson was a first round pick.  Ryan Williams was a second round pick.  They were both highly-touted recruits.  Virginia Tech runs the football a lot, and you’ll be in a position to put up big numbers and become a high draft pick, if the talent is there.

Should Green worry about the depth chart, with so many other young backs already in the program?  No.  Wilson, Williams and Darren Evans all shared time with each other at various times, and Wilson and Williams were still able to be drafted very high.  Tech is also close to home, and if no running back fully establishes himself this year, then the
