There has been plenty of activity at Mills Godwin High School (Richmond, VA) this Evaluation Period, as major FBS college coaches are taking a close look at 6’6″, 290-pound junior Eric Tetlow , an all-district selection at left offensive tackle this past season.
UVa was at Godwin last Thursday. Maryland stopped by this Tuesday to watch a workout. East Carolina and Virginia Tech were expected by yesterday, and Pitt and Boston College are expected in next week.
Pittsburgh was the first school to offer Tetlow, who has since added Navy to his offer sheet.
“It was a big surprise,” Tetlow said of the offer from Pitt. “They came into the picture about a month ago. They contacted me over Facebook. And then I got a letter at my school from Coach [Jim] Hueber and Coach [Paul] Chryst, and that was when they extended an offer to me. It was real nice for them to pull the trigger without seeing me first and meeting me. Over Spring Break, I went up for a visit and met all the coaches. I know Coach Hueber came over from Wisconsin. He has coached plenty of NFL offensive linemen. I enjoyed the visit. The city reminds me of Richmond.”
Tetlow called receiving his first offer a “real special moment. It almost felt like a weight had been lifted off my back. I was excited, and I was real surprised when I learned where the Pitt program could be going in a couple years. They have a whole new coaching staff, and many of the coaches are from Wisconsin, which has been a successful program. I also liked that Pitt shares the same facilities with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was cool walking through the hallways there.”
