Virginia Tech was the latest recruiting stop for Mountain View (Stafford, VA) wide receiver/defensive back DaeSean Hamilton , who was in Blacksburg this past Saturday for the annual Spring Game. The 6’1″, 185-pound junior reflected on what was his second trip to Tech this year.
“I was able to talk with Coach (Bud) Foster, Coach (Kevin) Sherman, and Coach (Frank) Beamer a little bit,” Hamilton recalled. “We ate lunch, and then we talked down to the field. That’s when the game was cancelled (due to lightning). After that, my family and I just decided to leave.”
Of Tech’s coaching staff, Hamilton said: “They are all nice. Coach Sherman is a real funny guy. Coach Foster is real friendly. Coach Beamer seems like a real nice guy. He said he enjoyed my family and sitting down and talking to me. They all seem like down-to-earth people.”
Hamilton made two visits to the University of Virginia the week prior, and he had hoped to be able to more clearly compare both in-state BCS schools. It appears he’ll have to return to Tech to be able to make that thorough comparison.
“I didn’t really get to stick around. My mom didn’t stick around. I didn’t get a good enough feel of it all to comment,” said Hamilton.
Tech’s Spring Game was cancelled, but the day was a good one recruiting-wise for Frank Beamer’s program. The Hokies added six commitments on the day, including five prospects from the class of 2013 and one from the class of 2014. Did the day’s news impact Hamilton in any way?
“I wouldn’t say it had much of an impact because it’s still my decision, but it was cool seeing other guys that committed. Seeing guys who might be my possible future teammates,” Hamilton answered.
