Patrick Henry (Roanoke, VA) star David Prince attended Virginia Tech’s junior day event on February 18, and he plans to hit the recruiting trail again tomorrow when he travels to the University of Virginia. The 6’1″, 175-pound junior had been to both Virginia and Virginia Tech before this latest round of visits, checking out games at each last fall. These are the only two programs he has explored closely so far.
Of his latest experience in Blacksburg, Prince said: “It was nice. I got to talk to a lot of other recruits and see where they were in the process. It was a chance for me and my family to talk to the coaches, visit the campus, and learn more about the academic side. It was a good day.”
That day, Prince took in the Virginia Tech men’s basketball game against Georgia Tech, the first time he had seen a college basketball game in person. He probably won’t stick around Charlottesville long enough tomorrow to see the Cavaliers take on Florida State, but he is looking forward to getting a better feel for UVa in general.
“I couldn’t make it down for either of the junior days because I was at Tech on the 18th and I had indoor track on the 25th,” Prince said. “I got with the coaches and we agreed to me coming [tomorrow].”
UVa probably won’t be the last visit for Prince, who boasts four offers in total – East Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. He is also receiving serious interest from Maryland and N.C. State.
“I think I’ll visit a couple more colleges,” Prince said. “I have some time off now between indoor and outdoor track. East Carolina and Wake Forest, I definitely want to visit those two because they have offered.”
Prince’s coach, Alan Fiddler, said earlier in February that a decision would likely come prior to the 2012 football season. Speaking on when he may want to commit, Prince said: “I think I’ll just play it by ear.”
Right now, the standout athlete just wants to enjoy the recruiting process.
“Coach (Cornell) Brown from Virginia Tech told me to enjoy [the recruiting process] because it’s the only time I’ll get to do it, and not everybody gets to go through it,” Prince said. “I just feel blessed with the offers I have.”
